As the founding President of the Foothills Women’s Society - GFWC, I am deeply honored to formally make our introduction. Our chapter, a proud member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)—the nation’s largest and most impactful women’s organization— stands as a testament to what women can achieve when united by a shared vision.
We are fortunate to call the beautiful rural community of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, and its surrounding areas our home. Nestled in the heart of Western North Carolina, our region is rich in history, natural beauty, and small-town charm. Here, among the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we find not only the strength of our shared roots but also a deep sense of responsibility to nurture the community that has nurtured us. In a place where neighbors become family and traditions are cherished, the Foothills Women’s Society is dedicated to preserving and uplifting the spirit of this remarkable region.
One of the most powerful lessons we can embrace as women is the importance of owning our stories. Each of us carries a unique narrative shaped by triumphs, challenges, and growth. These stories are not just our past; they are the foundation of the future we are building. When we own our stories with pride, we inspire others to do the same, creating ripples of courage and authenticity throughout our community.
Owning our story is only the beginning. We must use the strength and wisdom of our experiences to give back to the communities that have shaped us. Service is the heart of the Foothills Women’s Society and the GFWC as a whole. Through acts of kindness, volunteerism, and leadership, we not only meet immediate needs but also sow the seeds for lasting change. Let us be relentless in our commitment to making a difference, whether through mentoring, organizing initiatives, or supporting those who need a hand to rise.
As we look toward the future, we must focus on building a legacy. The work we do today will echo for generations to come, shaping lives far beyond our own. Our efforts to foster community, empower women, and lead with purpose ensure that the Foothills Women’s Society will become a beacon of hope and progress. Through our affiliation with the GFWC, we are connected to a nationwide network of women who have spent over a century building legacies of service and leadership. Together, we are part of something larger than ourselves—something enduring and transformative.
I encourage each of you to embrace the full power of your voice and vision. Share your story. Lift others as you climb. And remember that every act of service, no matter how small, contributes to the legacy we are creating together.
I am proud to walk alongside each of these ladies, our founding members, as we continue to build a brighter, stronger future for Rutherfordton, our surrounding communities, and women everywhere.
With gratitude and determination,
Sheena Gabbard
